An epic fantasy series where the fate of the elven and human realms rests in the hands of one young woman, Annie.

A word from Hil G Gibb

The Golden Fleck Series is a romantic, epic, fantasy adventure about choices and consequences, spanning fantasy realms and centuries in human history.

If you like a strong female lead, with a sense of humour, a shed load of personal demons, and previously untapped powers, you will enjoy getting to know Annie.

Portals, elven realms, sea voyages, elven realm beasts, combat, triumph, tragedy, and magic abound.

If you love immersing yourself in a story that constantly weaves threads of bravery, magic, romance, fear, loathing, hate, loyalty, deceit, friendship, sacrifice, betrayal, heartache, and hope, then you’ll feel right at home here.

I've loved dreaming up and fleshing out the storyline and characters. There are plot and character twists all along the way - no spoilers here 😁

If you enjoy this series half as much as I did creating it, I shall be well chuffed.

The Dying Realms

The Annie Harper Trilogy Book I

As the moon rises over the Glasgow Necropolis, 18-year-old Annie sits among the gravestones, celebrating her birthday alone. With only a candle in a day-old muffin salvaged from a rubbish bin, she reflects on the past year and the struggles she's faced.

Her quiet moment is suddenly interrupted by the beam of a security guard's flashlight, shining directly on her face. In a panic, Annie scrambles to get away and reaches for a gravestone for balance. As her fingertips touch the soft, green moss covering the rough stone, she's transported into a different realm.

Without warning, a horse's hooves flash millimetres from her head, and she realises she's in grave danger. But before she can even process what's happening, someone on horseback appears and reaches out his hand to her.

"Grab my arm and jump up if you want to live!" he bellows, his voice urgent and commanding.

With no better choice, Annie takes a leap of faith and grabs onto the rider's arm, pulling herself onto the horse behind him. As they gallop away from danger, she can't help but spot the two suns and wonder - where is she? And who is her rescuer?

The Final Hope

The Annie Harper Trilogy Book III

Although Annie is gaining more control over her magic, her heart is terribly heavy. She is riddled with guilt, self-loathing, and melancholy. She has deservedly lost everyone she has grown to love.

She is all alone — again.

In newly forged relationships with a young pup and a sightless bird, Annie finds a glimmer of hope. She works tirelessly to put right all her wrongs, even if it costs her, her life.

Annie plays a vital part in the final battle — the victors will determine the lasting fate of the Elven and Human Realms.

About Hil G Gibb

"I'm passionate about high quality reads for great, avid readers"

A most dubious claim to fame - Hil almost killed Stephen Hawking while she furiously pedalled to a uni lecture for which she was woefully late!

Hil was born in Preston, Lancashire (Nick Park/Wallace and Gromit’s part of the world), not quite “when God were a lad.” She surprises herself, and amuses her husband, with her intense identification with her northern roots, as a Lancashire Lass.

As a teacher, Hil often created stores for her pupils on the spot, or shared cartoons she’d sketched of her cheeky spaniels, and tell funny stories about them.

The seeds of the Golden Fleck Series unexpectedly took root during her long road to recovery from a herniated disc in her spine. While pretty incapacitated, Hil took her mind on a virtual daily run of her spaniels through the woodland close to her home — one has to preserve one’s sanity somehow!

The visceral shift from home to the woodland, is what gave Hil the idea of portals. While the boys were chasing after pheasants and hares, Hil’s mind was chasing after Annie’s story. She was curious as to why Annie was an 18 year who was homeless by choice, and explored this while fleshing out the female protagonist's character.

When not immersed in writing or running her dogs (no longer virtually), you can find Hil practicing Yoga, reading, having coffee with friends, trying to teach herself classical guitar, or putting her favourite songs list on shuffle and dancing like nobody’s watching.
